Check out this great story about entrepreneurial spirit and inspiration. Tim Sanders is incredible and check out his blog here.

I was thinking today about Halloween and I asked myself, “Self, What is the scariest movie we’ve ever seen?” Immediately I think of the classic series, Nightmare on Elm St., Friday the 13th, Halloween, and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. (I didn’t forget Childs Play, just not very scary to me) Then I moved to my favorite genre of scary, not so much horror but the thriller; especially the psychological thriller. But since I don’t find most of them scary they didn’t make a top 5 and then it hit me - like Disco Lemonade. In the Fall of 1997 I saw a movie that I’ve tried to block from my mind since then. The film is Event Horizon and I was so freaked out i couldn’t sleep for a week afterward. I’d recommend it if you’re a horror fan. It’s got the gore and the plausible theme (after you get past that whole people living in space and liking it) the wild part is how the whole it unfolds and how they don’t realize there’s a problem til it’s too late.
that’s my scariest… what’s yours?

I know I’ve said it before, but it never ceases to amaze me at how much music adds to film. Tonight I watched Shopgirl and the movie was well done with a fun story but its the music that just gave it depth. It’s Incredible! The film is scored by Barrington Pheloung with the assistance of the London Metropolitan Orchestra. What results is the ability to take LA and craft it into a moody beautiful city. The only movie I can remember that’s similar is Jon Favreau’s Swingers. Although the city is a totally different character the echo of hipster cool in Favreau’s LA provides a great backdrop for the story.
Having been a fan of Steve Martin’s writing since he released his first film based on his writing, A Simple Twist Of Fate, he strikes gold here again. Sure he’s a comedic genius, well known for his physical comedy but it’s his heart in writing that draws me in. The side that inspires, the side that shows depth, the side that inspires. the film was a good story but it’s ability to capture snapshots of lives all intersecting for a time that wins me.
The nice surprise was seeing Mark Kozelek (Red House Painters, Sun Kil Moon) in the film. It seems as though neither he or his music will be kept from movies that have great stories to tell. (Elizabethtown, Almost Famous) Definitely a good watch for the evening.
“Only then does he realize how wanting part of her and not all of her had hurt them both and how he can not justify his actions except that, well, it was life.”

So we all know that myspace is a cultural phenomenon and no one loves cheesy glitter art that says things like “Hottie” Player-pimp” and “Holler” more than me. But I’ve been thinking for a while of all the friend stuff and it reminded me of the Golden Girls. So many myspacers want to thank people for “adding” them and being their”friend” (already this post has more “quote marks” than it should) so why not say that you’ve got style and class. Enter Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan, Betty White and Estelle Geddy. These bastions of early prime time, the current champions of the pre wheel of fortune time slot and the only ones who could beat back Jim J. Bullock and Meshach Taylor. So where do the Golden Girls rate in the grand scheme of women sitcoms. Designing Women… They don’t have the moxie. Facts Of Life - Mrs. Garret couldn’t go one round with Bea Arthur (Isn’t she a man anyway?) One Day At A Time - Schroeder can’t hold a candle to Ms. Rue McClanahan. You see my point.. or at least see where I’m going with this… These women are solid ambassadors into the Myspace world as an easy way to tell others that you have good taste but also if there is some disrespect you’ve got access to a larger drug ring than 50 cent good ever imagine - AARP. You take drugs away from older women and you are messing with the bull and you know what happens then. (You get the horns) So in an effort to spread goodwill along the interweb, I give you the golden girls complete with code to use for yourself.

Check out this list of Super Harry Potter nerd-dom. I don’t know what’s worse; that I thought the list was funny or that I can’t wait for more info on the next HP movie.
