Kellan Studios, my all-time favorite photography studio, has partnered with a few other super talented studios (Jodi Miller and The Beautiful Mess) to bring a workshop that covers more than just the basics and talks through the disciplines that have helped each of these companies in their meteoric rise to stardom. Collectively these 3 companies have appeared in over two dozen national and international publications.
Each group has their specialty but they also overlap in their strengths – and thus Venn Workshops were born. This first one is in the gorgeous Physalia Plantation in Tyro, Virginia (not far from Charlottesville)

I love this quote from Jim Rohn, “If you invest in your job you can make a career but if you invest in yourself, you’ll make a life.”
Running a small business is no small task. It’s important to set aside time, money, resource for self improvement. So many people out there buy a camera and start calling themselves a photographer. There’s no shame in that game, you’ve got to start somewhere. Workshops and training are a quick way to launch your career and change the trajectory of your life.
So check out the Venn Workshops, there’s a few spots left.
For the last 5 years at the end/beginning of each year I think about music. This December/January was no different. I love music, I love listening to it, talking about it.. the only thing I don’t love about music – the attitudes that sometime go with it. (But that’s the way of most things)
I’ve been very fortunate in that I’ve been able to talk with some insanely talented musicians in the last 13 years. The progression from DJ to show promoter to show host has been rewarding even though never financially profitable (I could tell you some stories!!)
So it’s January again and again I’m thinking music… So we Start The Drop all over again (version 5.0 if you’re keeping track) This season I’m joined by Tiffany Enns for the show. She’s a tour veteran and has been working with music for several years.
So what’s different about this year? Here’s a few highlights:
- A great lineup, including The Daylights, The Bird and The Bee and Andy Davis – Released weekly all the way until SXSW!
- A brand NEW look at www.thedroponline.com
- We’re giving away some great prizes – Check it out here!
A favor to ask.. Go get the show, tell me what you think? Sign up for email, connect on twitter, like the fan page (ok, this is more than one favor) and you’re entered to win…
Meet Kiera, she just had her picture taken this past Saturday as part of Help Portrait.
This short film is part of the Stories from Skid Row series and I just love it. It cracks me up.
Kiera lives at Union Rescue mission with her Mom and Dad. Since spending the night on Skid Row last month with Andy Bales, Richard Riordan and EDAR.org creator Peter Samuelson. I’m not looking at this issue the same. Please donate to URM this month and help families like Kiera’s have a fighting chance to a better life.
Let me know what your favorite part is.
I’m 50% the way through his 4 day seminar on Story. I thought you might like to experience a taste of what I am. Here’s Robert McKee talking about setting.
