Upon entering the theatre for my long awaited viewing of X3, I was surrounded by so many others who were thrilled to see the third installment in the Xmen saga. Right off the bat, my concerns were of too many characters and not nearly enough time and there’s no way Hollywood’s green lighting a superhero epic.

So much talk centered around Halle Berry pushing for more screen time and then the studio cow towing to that. Which is sad because it’s politics as usual even in regards to great stories that have survived on a month to month basis for years.

With the Start of the movie and the back story on Jean Gray, the special effects to make patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan Younger were great.. so subtle but perfect. i thought the movie did a great job with regards to Jean Gray and the beloved Phoenix. Tweaking some of the major points of a form of schizophrenia vs an alien was a bit of a betrayal but they did stay true to the characters essence, unhinged, unsure and misguided.

I think the whole world wanted more Wolverine. The first films were great for showing off some talent but we wanted more. Logan in the woods taking out scouts and perimeter defenses was a great bit… although if I geek out here.. he’s a former CIA agent/NSA operative/ninja… I’d think it’d be more stealthy.

For best scenes in the film, when the team revisits Jeans house and absolute chaos ensues, it’s fantastic. Anytime Phoenix “shows up” the effects are great… they just don’t do enough with her in the last scene, she has to have a psychotic break before she gets involved.

The fantastic surprise of the film in found in Ellen Pages portrayal of Kitty Pride. She was incredible! as I watched the screen it was easy to envision the very same thing in the pages of a comic book…

Where story line is concerned I think they could get away from the “the mutant phenomenon” and how it fits into the modern day world. We (the american and world population) are all on board with comic books being made into films, I’d just like more of a leap into that universe.

Overall… X3 is easily worth the cash for the theatre experience and of course I can live with the adjustments but my preference would be to get Brian Singer back on board and ditch Storm, provided there’s another one.
