What Makes a Hit Show?

Love Monkey

I really wanted to like “Love Monkey”, I really did. I’ve been talking about it for weeks. “Make sure you catch the premiere, it’s going to be amazing.” There was great surprise when Thomas Cavanaugh (ED) hit the ground and stumbles, in truth it’s not him. It’s all the writing and trying so hard to be cool and have indie credibility So much so that they forgot to make the characters more than vanilla.

Will I watch it again?

Probably, most of the show was picking out the misic from every scene and I wasn’t surprised even once. Most choices were obvious and mirrored “About A Boy” with all the Badly Drawn Boy in there. That did displease me, not because of the sound of the music, Badly Drawn Boy is Amazing! But because it so clearly ripped off of Nick Hornsby’s work. The classic staples of Dylan, The Who, etc were just way too obvious. I don’t know if it’s new territory for CBS to jump into the genre of mid 20’s drama fueled by pop culture and music itself but maybe they should leave it to FOX.
