The Shield

Joe and I were talking about just after the firstof the year some of our favorite Tv shows make their season premieres. For The Shield, super gritty cop drama, whose premiere in Jan. 10th debuts Forest Whittaker to lead in the IAD investigation of Vic Mackey and the rest of the Strike Team.

24

Also up is 24, with Keifer Sutherlands portrayal of Jack Bauer, a man who has a couple rough days in his life, returns to log some serious TiVo time on most peoples DVRs. As a combination of 24 and The Shield brings also with it the decline of Desperate Housewives and Laguna beach and whatever other girlie water cooler conversation there is to be had.

From where I sit.. January is looking good.

JOsh rouse

Josh Rouse recently released (Nov) another edition in his Bedroom Classics Collection. I bought it this week and it’s unlike his regular work. (that’s prob why it’s under a different title) The focus on this album is on the music not on the vocals (most tracks are instrumental). My impression of the album is that it’s great music to chill by (not to get down by, a la Marvin Gaye) rouse interjects this jangle pop with some humming and a real sense of enjoyment in being sequestered in your room to write, listen to tunes or just to think. It’s fantastic and I’d reccomend it to anyone. 5 STARS

Olivia

Today is a new day. I have joined a gym in town, I’m calling it the “Because” and not the “Y” due to the fact that its more proactive. (wait for it to sink in…. a thank you, courtesy of Sam and Ryan) By joining the YMCA BEFORE the holidays I’m trying to get ahead of the pack on the New Years resolution game. Although the social situation that is your local workout place of choice is an odd one to be sure. You know the guys that lift a weight once every 15 minutes so that they can look tough and manly.. or the women who get all dolled up and strut in front of the whole place only to get a drink of water and supposed towel off from the non existent work out that they just had. Meanwhile those of us who want to sweat and not enter the fashion show are forced to deal and politely ignore the other crowd. What a work out.

McQueen

Very quickly Steve McQueen is becoming a fascination of mine. As an actor (Magnificent Seven, Nevada Smith, The Thomas Crown Affair) and as a person. I got a chance to watch a AMC special on McQueen and he was intriguing. It’s pretty obvious that Mr. Brad Pitt (also a fav) takes a lot of cues from this legend of the silver screen. You can check out his Movie Database profile here

Previously, my guilty pleasure for movies was James Dean (Giant, East of Eden) he always played the kid who was troubled and trying to figure stuff out. Maybe because I’ve officially entered the world of old (30’s) that persona doesn’t do anything for me anymore. McQueen’s characters still had their quirks but the anti-hero loaner with a good heart seems more appealing of late.
