The Recent Renaissance

Audrey Hepburn Tiffany's

In the past week I got the incurable itch to watch some older film. (Thus began the Steve McQueen watching last week) I perused what AMC and Turner Classic Movies had to offer in the coming weeks. So a few days ago it started. The original Sabrina (1954), starring Humphrey Bogart, Willam Holden, and the then unknown, Audrey Hepburn. It was extremely well done and I was shocked that the 1995 remake with Harrison Ford and Julia Ormond was nearly verbatim. I guess so goes the “remake” of it.

Then today (brace yourselves) Pride and Prejudice (1940, Sir Laurence Olivier, Greer Garson) found it’s way to my TiVo, so I started to watch. I’ve never seen it before and according to Donald Miller, he’s been told “understanding that book is the key to a womans heart”. (Blue Like Jazz) Previous my only knowledge of the story is that there is some guy named Mr. Darcy and some girl named Jo (I Mean Elizabeth… thanks Kim) and that PBS made a mini series that is so long that it’s probably on right now still in it’s first run.

I’m not done with it yet but I’ll give you the scoop when I am.
